Mulongo late strike salvages crucial point for Vipers against Express
Gusto Mulongo came off the bench to score in the 95th minute to ensure the Venoms get a crucial away point in an entertaining StarTimes Uganda Premier league game played at Hamz Stadium- Nakivubo on Friday.
Mulongo who replaced Isaac Ogwang in the 86th minute, tapped in a well crafted Milton Karisa delivery right at the death to hold the Red Eagles to a 2-2 draw.
Former Venom and Express Captain Wasswa Emmanuel ran the show in the first Stanza, scored twice before the break in the 15th minute when he headed in from close range and doubled the lead with the cracker from outside the 18 yard box in the 25th minute.
Allan Okello had pulled one back for the visitors in the 52nd minute when he capitalized on Sukuya’s clever ball into the 18 yard box, and later at the death, Mulongo levelled.
However, the Venoms were lucky not to concede the third goal after Alfred Mukendereza denied Kagawa from close range when the game was 2-1.
Pedro Sukuya and Isaac Ogwang were other Vipers players that got opportunities to find the back of the net, Sukuya long range effort went inches wide and Ogwang weak header was taken care of by goalkeeper Hafizi.
The draw meant, NEC FC that beat Kitara 2-1 yesterday, close the gap to two points as they look forward to lock horns in the next fixture.
Vipers at the apex with 53 points, NEC FC are second placed with 51, BUL and URA FC tied at 39 points are 3rd and 4th placed respectively.
Vipers and NEC face off next Thursday 17th April in what may seem to be a title decider.
