Coach Danicho Ssegawa Guides Lubiri SS back to USSSA Finals after 7 Years.

Malith Abuyi and Bonny Namiti scored the historical goals for coach Daniel Ssegawa coached side Lubiri Senior Secondary School in the 4-0 victory over Bishop Cyprian Kihingre to return to the big stage after Seven years.

Coach Daniel ‘Danicho’ Ssegawa in charge of the school for his first year in Kampala District Football, managed to negotiate his way back to the nationals that will be held at Ngora High School in Ngora district after the team had failed to make it on several occasions.

Ssegawa takes back Lubiri SS to the table of big boys where they last appeared in Mbarara Copa Coca Cola now USSSA games 2018 when William Kyeswa was still in charge.

Coach Danicho speaking to this site in an exclusive interview, pointed at quick preparation as a key factor to the success.

” We have not just qualified, but we deserved it because I prepared the team so well and I ask the OBs and OGs of the school to come and support their team in whichever way as we start preparations for the nationals in Ngora soon and I would love to promise them good performance.but as a coach I expected it because I have been there many times and I knew what we needed to return there but being my first year in Kampala I was trying to adopt to the new environment but I had it that we must qualify.” Danicho stated.

Lubiri SS, returns to the big stage and will represent Kampala district along with big boys Kibuli SS that lost in the semis, Uganda Matyrs and Kawempe Muslim that are set to face off in the final on Friday.

Lubiri SS Journey to back to the nationals (USSSA Finals)

At district level, Lubiri SS lost to Uganda Matyrs H/S 1-0, beat Mengo SS 3-0, defeated Chwa SS 6-0, beat Lubiri Annex 6-0 and at regional level, at group stage level only lost to Kibuli SS 2-0, then Lubiri beat Bishop Cyprian and Kololo High School 4-0 and 3-0 respectively.

However, after Lubiri SS drawing with Kazo SS, in the last group game, were awarded 3 points and 3 points after Kazo were found guilty of using machineries/repeaters which is contrary to the USSSA games rules and regulations.

Lubiri SS finished 3rd in Kampala district, after they lost the semi-final 6-5 to Kawempe Muslim SS after a 1-1 draw in normal time.

The CAF C licence holder, was at St John’s Kauga, assistant at Risah in 2014-15, then the next year guided Janan Bombo to Soroti in 2016, before he joined St Julian in 2017 up to 2023

Danicho coaching experience;

Ssegawa guided now SUPL club Lugazi FC to the FUFA big league as head coach.

He was as well, coach of Lugazi Municipal FC, Buikwe Red stars, Ty FC and was with URA FC Junior team between 2017 & 2018.

Ssegawa also had a stint at SC Villa under Mike Mutebi.

Danicho achievements;

Won the Masaza Cup title with Mawokota as assistant in 2013.

Guided Lugazi FC to the FBL when he defeated Kajjansi United.

He was champion of Wampewo zone for 6 years and played Copa Coca Cola/USSSA semis with St Julian in 2018.

Uganda Matyrs Lubaga beat Kibuli SS 1-0 and will face Kawempe Muslim that eliminated Lubiri SS (6-5) in penalties in the final slated for Friday to determine the Kampala champion as we head to Ngora.
