Lamennais tournament returns to St Mary’s College Kisubi after a decade

St Mary’s College Kisubi is ready to open its gates as hosts of the 64th edition of the Lamennais Tournament, set for 22nd to 29th August 2026.

For starters, the Lamennais Tournament is an annual celebration played by schools founded by the Brothers of Christian Instruction based in Kisubi.

In addition, its main aim is to bring together the students from the Brothers’ schools in unity and competition.

This year’s edition promises more action. Football for both boys and girls, table tennis, and chess will light up the week.

Furthermore, the tournament returns to Kisubi in ten years, SMACK last hosted it in 2016.

That year, St Edwards Bukuumi from Mubende wrote their name on the boys’ trophy, defeating Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga in the boys’ football final.

Moreso, the Mennaisain family is wide.

St Mary’s College Kisubi, St Charles Lwanga SS Kasasa, Bishop Comboni College Kambuga, St Henry’s College Kitovu, Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga, Nebbi SS, St Edwards Bukuumi, Lamennais SS Kyotera, and Caltec Academy Makerere.

Defending champions also arrive with pride.

Last year, St Henry’s College Kitovu lifted the boys’ football crown, Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga ruled in girls’ football, while St Mary’s College Kisubi took the table tennis title.

This edition carries extra meaning because the Brothers of Christian Instruction are marking their Centennial celebrations in 2026 , 100 years of service, faith, and education.

What better way to honour that legacy than with a week where talent meets discipline and Unity?

Lastly, the Lamennais Tournament has long been a forge for greatness.

It has produced names that now shine far beyond even up to the national team.

To start with is legendary Mutakabala , Nicholas Kasozi of Kitara FC, Douglas Oyirwoth captain of Ntugasaze FC, Bashir Kabuye at UPDF FC, Kevin Nakachwa of Rines SS WFC, Shadia Nankya in France, Catherine Nagadya at Al Ahly in the Egyptian Women’s Super League, Sharon Kaidu of Kampala Queens, Benjamin Nyakonjo at Kitara FC, and many more Pius Ssebulime, Abu Mayanja, Pius Kaggwa, Osman Mayanja, Kisolo Innocent, Lawrence Kambugu, Kiyemba Eria of Masaka City FC.
