Kampala Hosts Record-Breaking CAVB Zone V Club Championship: APR in Group D, Nemostars in Group A as Draws Unveiled

The Zone V Club Championship of the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) kicks off today in Kampala, Uganda, promising to be a record-breaking event with the participation of over 20 teams from 12 member countries of Zone V.

The highly anticipated tournament will run from February 26 to March 4, 2025, at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium and Old Kampala Sports Arena. The draws, conducted this morning, have set the stage for thrilling group-stage matchups:

Men’s Groups:

  • Group A: Nemostars (Uganda), Rwanda National Police (Rwanda), Jeshi Stars (Tanzania), Rukinzo (Burundi)
  • Group B: Sport-S (Uganda), UCU Doves (Uganda), REG (Rwanda)
  • Group D: APR (Rwanda), KAVC (Uganda), Tanzania Prisons Services (Tanzania), Cobra Sports Club (South Sudan)

This championship marks the first major volleyball event organized in Kampala since Sadik Nasiwu assumed the presidency of both CAVB Zone V and the Uganda Volleyball Federation in November 2024.

During a press conference at the Uganda Olympic Committee headquarters, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) assured teams and fans of high-quality organization and top-notch facilities.

Sadik Nasiwu, President of CAVB Zone V, expressed his excitement about hosting the tournament:

“We are delighted to welcome the best teams in the region. This championship is a unique opportunity to showcase the talent of African volleyball and to boost its development within Zone V.”

Joseph Odong, President of the LOC, praised Uganda’s preparations and acknowledged the support from the Ugandan government and the National Council of Sports (NCS):

“We have worked tirelessly to ensure this tournament meets international standards. Our gratitude goes to the government and NCS for their steadfast support.”
