Denis Omedi’s Brace Inspires APR to Comeback Victory Over Kiyovu

Ugandan forward Denis Omedi made a dream league debut for APR FC, scoring twice as the army side came from behind to defeat Kiyovu Sports Club 2-1 at Kigali Pele Stadium on Saturday.

The hosts took an early lead in the 11th minute through David Niyo, capitalizing on a bright start that saw APR momentarily pinned in their own half. However, the army side responded swiftly, controlling possession and pressing higher up the pitch.

Omedi equalized in the 25th minute, displaying excellent composure inside the box before slotting the ball past the goalkeeper. The forward was at it again 16 minutes later, netting his second in the 41st minute to complete APR’s turnaround before halftime.

Despite numerous chances in the second half, APR failed to extend their lead, with Kiwanuka, Mamadou Sy, and Ouattara missing clear-cut opportunities. Kiyovu attempted to respond on the counter but failed to break through APR’s solid backline.

The victory moves APR within two points of the league leaders, while Kiyovu’s relegation worries deepen. Omedi’s dream debut and Kiwanuka’s strong attacking display have undoubtedly provided APR with a major boost in their title chase.
