Uganda National Football team head coach Muliti ‘Micho’ Sredjovic after loosing the Group F opener to Algeria, knows how important this second game is and the threat his opponents can cause speaking in a pre-match presser held at FUFA House in Mengo on Tuesday.
Uganda lost 2-0 in Algiers and will play their second group game against Niger at St Mary’s Stadium Kitende at exactly 4pm EAT in Wednesday.
Micho flanked by team captain Emmanuel Okwi, and media officer Julius Bazzeketa, pointed at the urge to pick maximum points on Wednesday and how dangerous the Niger team could be while speaking to the media on Tuesday.
“Now after passing seven days together, we are fully aware of what this match at home means to us. We want to involve the 12th player and give them a reason to support us.”
“They tried to put their players togather playing in different countries, so we need to have adequate approach that will practically push us to the direction of keeping oura identity and showing that Kitende is a fortress where nobody can come and resist all our plans. Believing in players, believing in all your support, believing that we will get the performance and result from tomorrow’s game.”
Micho also pointed at transition as a big factor to look at as many members of the old squad have retired.
” On the rate of the rebuilding process – When we talk about progress, we need to understand that we are in an extraordinary situation where the nation had great hope when the U20 team reached the finals of the African Cup last year. And together with the players that were outgoing and retiring, we needed to have a perfect balance and blend of experience with Emma, Bevis, Khalid and others on one side, and a blend of young stars that are coming inside.
At the same pre match presser, team captain Okwi, promised a better show compared to what happened in Algiers.
” We must accept the fact that we didnot play well in our first game away to Algeria, but we want to build on that, correct our mistakes. Every player in the camp is aware of what is at stake. On Wednesday, we are look forward for positive results.”
Algeria is leading the group with 3 points, Tanzania and Niger tied at one points each and Uganda bottom placed is yet to get a point in this campaign.
Uganda made it to the Gabon 2017 and Egypt 2019 AFCON finals and were so impressive in Egypt under French man Sebastien Desabre.
