FIFAU20WWCQ: Ghana Edge Uganda To Take 1st Leg Advantage.  

Ghana have defeated Uganda 2-1 in the first leg of the the FIFA U-20 Women world Cup qualifier first leg played at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Fauzia Najjemba scored for Uganda, Salamatu Abdulai and Grace Animah scored in either half for the visitors to take a goal advantange into the second leg

Forward Salamatu Abdulai capitalised on Asia Nakibuka mistake who failed to clear the ball to give the visitors the lead in the 19th minute.

Uganda’s first opportunity fell to Captain Fauzia Najjemba who missed a keeper to beat in the 9th minute when he was denied by Goal keeper Konlan credit to a nice through ball by Aisha Nantongo.

Fauzia closely got her second opportunity to find an equaliser but again goalkeeper Konlan was up to the task with a figure tips save to force a corner.

Suzzy Dede almost doubled the lead for the visitors but her well struck long range free kick hit the goal post.

The visitors before half time got another golden chance to double the lead but Dorris Boaduwaa missed a close tap in on a well crafted cross from the left.

Catherine Nagadya was replaced by Lilian Mutuuzo at half time and Shamirah Nalugya came on for Margret Kunihira.

Grace Animah extended the lead for the visitors early in the second with a well struck freekick.

Uganda almost pulled one back in the 57th minute, but substitute Shamirah Nalugya freekick effort was pushed out by the goal keeper.

Captain Fauzia gave Uganda a life line going into the return leg when he found one one from the penalty spot after bringing down Nalugya in the area.

There were injury concerns for Uganda finishing the game with nine players with Fauzia Najjemba and Aisha Nantongo both stretched off injured before the last whistle. Whether they will play the return leg will be determined by the doctors examination.

The retrurn leg will be played in a weeks time in Acraa, Ghana.

The aggregate winner of the two legs will face the winner between Tanzania and Ehiopia.
