Gazelles receive 5M Boost from PostBank on Women’s Day
After the Uganda women’s national basketball team, the Gazelles sealed their spot at the upcoming FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2025 finals after a stunning 74-63 victory over hosts Egypt in the finals of the qualifiers. The triumph not only showcased the team’s growing dominance in African basketball but also marked a significant milestone in their journey to the continental stage.
In a show of support and appreciation, PostBank Uganda, in partnership with Crown Beverages Limited, hosted a press conference to celebrate and support the Uganda Gazelles Women’s Basketball Team. The event was attended by key stakeholders, including the team’s management, players, and representatives from PostBank and Crown Beverages Limited.
During the event, PostBank awarded the Gazelles a cheque of UGX 5 million as part of their Women’s Day celebrations — a gesture aimed at encouraging the team as they gear up for the AfroBasket tournament. The cheque was officially handed over by Priscilla Akora, PostBank’s Head of Sales.
This Women’s Month, we thought it was important for us at PostBank to step in and support these incredible women. They have raised our flag high, and we want to be part of their journey as they prepare for the AfroBasket finals,” said Akora during the presentation.
The Gazelles’ journey to Côte d’Ivoire, where the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2025 finals will be held from 27 July to 3 August 2025, will involve a series of training camps to fine-tune their preparations.
According to Racheal Atuhaire, the FUBA Lead for Women’s Basketball, discussions are underway with PostBank to solidify a long-term partnership in support of the team.
We are in talks with PostBank to turn this support into an ongoing relationship. I believe working together will help elevate women’s basketball in Uganda,Atuhaire noted.
The players, too, expressed their gratitude for the recognition. Hope Akello, one of the Gazelles’ key players, emphasized the significance of PostBank’s gesture.
We truly appreciate PostBank for stepping up and acknowledging our hard work. So much effort goes into what we do, and this kind of support means a lot as we push forward,” said Akello.
The qualifiers also provided a platform for emerging talents like Maxim Anyango and Namayanja Bushirah, who impressed with their performances, signaling a bright future for Uganda’s women’s basketball team.
As the countdown to the AfroBasket 2025 finals begins, the Gazelles remain focused on their preparations, driven by both their recent success and the growing support from partners like PostBank.
