AFCON 2027 Qualifiers: Captain Khalid Aucho, Watambala out of Paul Put Squad

Uganda Cranes captain Aucho Khalid and in-form Vipers SC Midfielder Abdul Karim Watambala have been left out of the 27 man squad named by Head Coach Paul Put for the AFCON 2027 qualifier games against Tunisia and Libya and the two friendlies against DR Congo.

Put pointed at the current form, fitness and commitment of the summoned players and he believes they have what it takes to deliver good results for Uganda.

Other notable common faces in the Cranes squad dropped by the Belgian tactician include; goalkeeper Salim Jamal, striker Uche Ikpeazu, John Paul Dembe, mifieder Bobosi Byaruhanga and Jude Ssemugabi.

Vipers SC Midfielder Joel Serunjogi, Striker Ivan Ahimbisibwe are other big names nor considered for this window.

Midfielder Noble Okello playing for Lexington in USA and Salford FC defender Asiimwe lead the cohort of the new faces given chance.

Put named a strong and competitive squad for the September-October international window, saying he is confident the group selected for the two events will do the job in the September-October international window, omitting some of the regular faces.

Put further stated, some omitted players are currently without clubs or have just completed transfers and have not had enough playing time, while others have recently returned from long injuries and are yet to regain full match rhythm, with limited minutes in recent games.

He stressed that the door remains open for all of them to return to the squad.
