Uganda Cricket Association Announces Termination of CEO’s Contract
The Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) has announced the termination of Mr. John Bipin Walusimbi’s contract as CEO, effective 25 February 2025. This decision follows a strategic review by the UCA Board aimed at advancing the growth and development of cricket in Uganda.
In the interim, Ms. Evelyne Kabongera, the current Financial Accountant, will step into the role of Acting CEO while the search for a permanent replacement is conducted.
The UCA Board expressed its gratitude to Mr. Walusimbi for his service and contributions during his tenure.
We extend our sincere thanks to Mr. John Walusimbi Bipin for his efforts and wish him the very best in his future endeavors, the statement read.
Mr. Walusimbi assumed the role of CEO for a three-year term, taking over from Mr. Alan Mugume, who had served since July 2022. His appointment came at a pivotal moment for Uganda Cricket, as the Cricket Cranes were set to participate in the T20 World Cup in June last year — a historic milestone for the association. Additionally, the Victoria Pearls are still eyeing a spot in the Women’s World Cup, with a crucial Global Qualifier scheduled for April in Dubai.
Despite these significant upcoming events, Mr. Walusimbi’s premature departure has sparked speculation, with some questioning whether ethical concerns may have influenced the decision. However, the UCA has yet to disclose the specific reasons for his contract termination.
