Despite loosing the Entebbe City Championship final, Entebbe Pride Football Club head coach Wyclef Kabiito is optimistic they will continue with their good run in Stanbic Uganda Cup.
Entebbe Pride will face experienced gaffer Alex Gitta coached side Simba SC on Friday 23rd December at round 4 of the Uganda Cup.
Kabito said; “We often teach these players that three results happen in the game of football, because we have been winning, a loss in this tournament cannot put them down more so loosing in penalties. I spoke to the players after the match and we are focused so much on winning the Uganda Cup game against Simba and every one knows if a draw happens, still we shall go to shot outs. Because that’s football.” He told Sport256 in an exclusive interview.
” Tournaments like these, help us prepare the team well for our biggest goal that is to take the team to regional league next season. my boys are in good shape, very well prepared mentally for whatever comes our way.” He added.
Defender Wahab Ssenkungu is as well, hopeful the team is energized, the players will give their whole to progress to the next round.
” We were a better side but unfortunately we lost in penalties, we were unlucky, but that is past now, we are focused and energized for our game against Simba, I want to call upon all the fans and well wishers to come and support us. We are going to give our whole playing against an opponent who plays in the 3rd tier and I promise them victory on friday. I trust fellow players, coaches and management and we are all focused.” The soft spoken center back stressed.
Coach Pro who won the Eddy Kenzo festival tournament at the same pitch, was however impressed by the boys’ display on Sunday.
Entebbe Pride lost the final of the Entebbe City Championship 4-2 to Mapera in penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time.
“Though the most important thing is the result of the game but to me as a coach, I feel we did everything right in reference to the game, we put up a good show, we pressed them in both halves, created many chances, but we were unlucky.” Kabiito added.
Entebbe Pride defeated Wakibombo FC 3-0 in the first round,
Synergy (1-0) away from home in the second round and Zanta United 3-2 in the third round.
Entebbe Pride FC that lost the final last year at the zonal mini-league to stay in the forth tier that is soon kicking off, will be targeting promotion to the regional league this season.
