WORLD ATHLETICS:JACOB KIPLIMO SHINES WITH HISTORIC RUN AS SUB TWO HOUR BARRIER FALLS AT 2026 LONDON MARATHON
Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo delivered a stunning performance, securing third place with a time of 2:00:28, which is also inside the previous world record set by the late Kelvin Kiptum.
Kiplimo’s achievement is a testament to Uganda’s continued presence among the world’s elite distance runners.
However, Kenyan runner Sabastian Sawe made history by becoming the first man to officially break the two-hour marathon barrier, clocking an incredible 1:59:30 at the 2026 London Marathon.

Sawe’s remarkable win was closely followed by Ethiopian athlete Yomif Kejelcha, who also dipped under the two-hour mark with a time of 1:59:41, marking the fastest marathon debut ever.
The women’s race was equally impressive, with Tigst Assefa breaking her own world record with a time of 2:15:41.

Hellen Obiri and Joyciline Jepkosgei followed closely, marking the first time three women finished under 2:16.
Sawe’s historic win is a result of his dedication and perseverance.

“I feel good, I’m so happy. It is a day to remember for me,” he said after the race.
“We started the race well, and I felt strong approaching the finish. When I saw the time, I was so excited.”
