Sommet Basketball Club Acquires Our Savior’s NBL Slot, Steps into Uganda’s Top Tier
Sommet Basketball Club has officially secured a place in the National Basketball League (NBL) after acquiring Our Savior’s slot, marking a significant step forward for the club.
The announcement was confirmed on Wednesday, March 5, through an official statement from Sommet.
“We are thrilled to announce that, following successful discussions with Our Savior Club, Sommet Basketball Club will be competing in the National Basketball League starting this upcoming season,” the statement read.
The move comes after Sommet’s exit from the 2024 FUBA Division One quarterfinals, where they were eliminated by Uganda Martyrs University Flames. Despite the setback, the club has now earned its spot in the NBL through this acquisition, effectively replacing Our Savior, whose franchise was put up for sale.
With the deal finalized, Our Savior’s tenure in the NBL has officially come to an end, paving the way for Sommet to embrace the challenge of competing at the highest level of Ugandan basketball.

Transitioning from Division One to the NBL presents a new set of demands. Sommet will need to bolster its roster and strengthen its technical team to match the league’s competitive standards.
In their statement, Sommet emphasized that this move aligns with their long-term vision of growth and excellence.
“Joining the NBL is a reflection of our ambition to not only compete among the country’s elite teams but also to contribute to the ongoing development of basketball in Uganda,” the club stated.
As the new season approaches, all eyes will be on Sommet Basketball Club to see how they navigate this bold step into the premier league of Ugandan basketball.
