Kenya Pipeline,KAVC and APR Off to Flying Starts as CAVB Zone V Club Championship Kicks Off in Kampala

The 2025 CAVB Zone V Club Championship got off to an electrifying start today in Kampala, with intense volleyball action at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium. Defending ladies champions Kenya Pipeline and Rwanda’s Men APR VC both recorded dominant victories, setting the tone for what promises to be a thrilling tournament.

Kenya Pipeline Dominates Ndejje Elites

Kenya Pipeline VC wasted no time in asserting their dominance in Pool A, sweeping past Uganda’s Ndejje University Elites with a commanding 3-0 victory. The set scores read 25-16, 25-20, and 25-23 — a clear statement of intent from the defending champions.

Pipeline’s attacking prowess, combined with solid defense, proved too much for Ndejje, who fought hard, especially in the final set, but ultimately fell short against the more experienced Kenyan side.

APR VC Cruise Past Cobra SC

In the men’s match, Rwanda’s APR VC comfortably dispatched South Sudan’s Cobra Sports Club in straight sets. The Rwandan giants showed their class, winning 25-16, 25-16, and 25-16 to kick off their campaign in style.

APR’s fast-paced play and seamless coordination overwhelmed Cobra SC, who struggled to keep up with the relentless attacks from the Rwandan side.

KAVC Outlast Tanzania Prisons in a Four-Set Thriller

One of the day’s most exciting matches saw Uganda’s KAVC edge out Tanzania Prisons VC in a hard-fought 3-1 victory.

KAVC took the first set 25-16 before Tanzania Prisons, led by the dynamic Amiri and Innocent Ayo’s powerful swings, fought back to claim the second set 26-24.

With the match tied, KAVC responded with a strong third set, winning 25-18, but Tanzania Prisons pushed them to the limit in a nail-biting fourth set, only for KAVC to seal the win 25-24 with a thunderous spike from Vincent.

REG Edge UCU Doves in a Fast-Paced Clash

Another match featured a high-intensity showdown between Rwanda Energy Group (REG) and Uganda Christian University (UCU) Doves.

REG took the opening set 25-23, with former UCU player Innocent Angiro showing no mercy against his old team.

Brazilian star Mathaus Mesquita Campos, with his experience from the Romanian League, led REG to a dominant 25-17 win in the second set.

Despite UCU’s spirited fightback, with Ian Akampa launching fierce serves and Mark Omara delivering powerful spikes, REG held their nerve to take the third set 25-23, securing a hard-fought 3-0 victory.

With the tournament now in full swing, teams will be looking to build on their opening performances as they battle for a spot in the knockout rounds.

The CAVB Zone V Club Championship continues until March 4, 2025, with fans eagerly anticipating more thrilling encounters and standout performances.
