Gazelles complete second training sessions in Cairo ahead of the FIBA Zone V Qualifiers.

 The Uganda Women’s National Basketball Team, the Gazelles, is set to embark on their quest for a spot in the 2025 Women’s Afrobasket as they prepare for the FIBA Africa Zone V Qualifiers in Cairo. Under the guidance of head coach Nicholas Natuhereza, the team has been putting in intense training sessions completing the second thia morning to ensure they are in top shape for the competition.

The Gazelles arrived in Cairo and wasted no time getting down to business, completing their first training session on January 31. With their second session now behind them, the team is shifting focus to their opening game on February 3, where they aim to make a strong statement in the qualifiers.

Speaking before the team’s departure from Uganda, team captain Jane Asinde expressed confidence in their preparations and reiterated the squad’s ambitions.

We go into this tournament with the sole aim to qualify. That’s the number one goal we have set as the Gazelles, Asinde stated.

The competition in Zone V is expected to be fierce, with several top regional teams vying for the prestigious Afrobasket qualification spot. However, with a determined squad and solid preparation, Uganda is optimistic about securing their place in the continental championship.

As the tournament unfolds, the Gazelles will be looking to leverage their hard work, team chemistry, and tactical discipline to overcome their opponents and make history on the road to the 2025 Women’s Afrobasket.
