Record 20 Teams Confirm Participation in 2025 CAVB Zone V Volleyball Club Championship

A record-breaking 20 teams have confirmed their participation in the 2025 CAVB Zone V Volleyball Club Championship, making it the largest edition in the competition’s history. The tournament, set for February 26 to March 4, will take place at Lugogo Indoor Arena and Old Kampala Arena in Kampala, Uganda.

The championship, now in its third edition, has seen significant growth, with the number of participating teams nearly doubling from the 11 teams that competed in the 2023 edition. Uganda secured hosting rights after edging out Rwanda in the bidding process.

Expansion and Significance
Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) President and CAVB Zone V head, Sadik Nasiwu, highlighted the competition’s growing stature, stating that the increased participation reflects the rising competitiveness of volleyball in the region. Defending champions Rwanda National Police (men) and Kenya Pipeline Company (women) are among the confirmed teams.

The tournament will feature clubs from 12 Zone V countries, including Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi, and South Sudan. Uganda will have five clubs in each category, including Sport-S, Nemostars, KCCA, and KCB-Nkumba.

Tournament Logistics
Local Organizing Committee Chairman Joseph Odong confirmed that entries will close on February 21, with matches running daily from 10 AM to midnight. Tickets will cost UGX 10,000 per day, and global audiences will have the option to watch via live stream. Nine international referees will officiate, with local referees serving as scorers and line judges.

  • Uganda: Nemostars, Sport-S, KCCA, KAVC, UCU Doves (Men); KCB-Nkumba, Ndejje University Elites, Vision Volleyball Camp, Sport-S, KCCA (Women)
  • Rwanda: Rwanda Energy Group, Armée Patriotique Rwandaise, Rwanda National Police (Men, defending champions), Rwanda National Police (Women)
  • Burundi: Rukinzo VC (Men)
  • Kenya: Kenya Pipeline Company (Women)
  • South Sudan: Cobra Sports Club (Men)
  • Tanzania: Jeshi Stars, Tanzania Prisons Services (Men), Tanzania Prisons Services (Women)

With final preparations in high gear, organizers are confident this edition will be a landmark event for regional volleyball.
