Uganda Emerging Secure 4-Wicket Victory Over Uganda U19 in Easter Youth Series

Uganda Emerging claimed a convincing 4-wicket win over Uganda U19 in the ongoing Easter Youth 50-over series, thanks to a composed half-century from Fahad Mutagana.

Chasing a modest target of 153, Mutagana anchored the innings with a crucial knock of 62 runs off 57 balls, steering his side to victory despite occasional stumbles at the other end. He found support in Charles Musemeza, who chipped in with a steady 36 runs.

Uganda Emerging made three changes to their squad for this encounter, bringing in Ahura Amos, Brighton Muganzi, and Brian Asaba in place of Jaffer Ochaya, Kiiza Jonathan, and Omara Ronald—a shuffle that paid off handsomely.

Earlier, after winning the toss and electing to bat, Uganda U19 endured a disappointing outing, managing only 152 runs in 34.3 overs—the lowest total of the tournament so far. Their innings got off to a rocky start, losing captain Gerald Olipa in the very first over to Mathew Musinguzi.

A brief resistance came through a 44-run stand between Sohera Richard (42 runs) and Nyiro Jonathan (37 runs), but the U19 side failed to build momentum.

Uganda Emerging’s bowling attack was relentless, with Fortunate Alijuna shining by claiming 3 wickets for 22 runs. He was ably supported by Oloka Pius, Sowobi Yunus, and Brighton Muganzi, who picked up two wickets each to dismantle the U19 lineup.

In response, Uganda Emerging chased down the target with ease, reaching 156/6 in just 27.4 overs. Though Balidawa Ali and Sohera Richard tried to claw back with a few wickets, Mutagana’s brilliance ensured there were no major hiccups.

Reflecting on the match, Uganda U19 head coach Emmanuel Isaneez admitted his team fell short but remained optimistic:

“We didn’t perform well today, and with such a small total on the board, it was always going to be tough. The Emerging side is a strong opponent, but we’ll use this as a learning experience as we prepare for the World Cup qualifiers in Nigeria.”

Match Result:

  • Uganda U19: 152 all out in 34.3 overs
  • Uganda Emerging: 156/6 in 27.4 overs
  • Uganda Emerging won by 4 wickets

Looking ahead, Uganda U19 will now shift their focus to their final showdown against Tanzania U19 tomorrow at Lugogo Cricket Oval—a crucial fixture that will wrap up the Easter Youth Series.
