Confederation of African football (CAF) C holder Henry Gama, has expressed his readiness to compete for the biggest prize shortly after being named new Bunyoro Province head coach ahead of the FUFA Drum tournament set to kick off in a few weeks time.
Gama a common figure in the Bunyoro Kitara region football cycles, having managed the Kitara region select team on two occasions, has been given the mantle to guide the province to the next level.
Gama will this year head the new elected tecnical team and will be deputised by Adibo Samuel (CAF C) holder, Masendi Sunday takes over the Kits manager role, while Kiiza Bosco is the team doctor.
While speaking to this site, a happy Gama was greatful for the opportunity and promised success to the Bunyoro people.
” I feel for greatful to have been appointed and given the task to Head our Province, i am so delighted for this opportunity and Bunyoro trusting my ability to lead them.” He noted.
He further pointed at winning the first ever title as his main target.
” As a coach my target is first looking forward to taking the Province through the qualifiers of the Drum preliminary round, secondly, have the team get out of the Group stages, since ever the Fufa Drum started Bunyoro province has never got out of the groups. Eye for the first ever glory(Tropy) for the Province.” He stressed.
Gama and the newly elected team’s immediate task is the FUFA drum preliminary round game against Rwenzori province coming up pending date confirmation.
The four were appointed today- Tuesday at Bunyoro province preparatory meeting which was chaired by Kitara region FA boss Ayebale James.
The new technical team’s first task is to guide Bunyoro province to the group stage of this year’s drum edition.
Gama, takes over from another experienced gaffer Mark Twinamsika who has been in charge for two seasons that came after Fred Alinaitwe.
Bunyoro province will host Rwenzori province on a date to be communicated after when FUFA has released the date for the fixtures at Kigaaya play ground in the first leg of the qualifying round.
In the other Qualifiers; Bugisu will host Karamoja first at Mbale municipal stadium, Kampala and Ankole will also play at home first against Bukedi and Sebei respectively.
Gama was at the helm, when his Kitara Region select side drew 2-2 with Desabre’s Cranes in 2018 in Kasese and also when Kitara Region select beat the Cranes 1-0 in 2019 under Abdallah Mubiru and Livingston Mbabazi.
Gama coaching experience he brings to the province.
Between 2004-06, he was at Jogoo young together with coach Paul Nkata and Ibrahim Kitya.
Coached Hoima FC in Super league I’m 2010.
He won the first ever Cnooc Bunyoro amasaza Cup with Buhaguzi 2012. Buhaguzi beat Hoima Municipality 2-1.
He as well, guided Dove FC to the Fufa Big league in 2017.
Also, he has managed to win many District and Regional trophies with different schools in the copa Coca-Cola schools competitions.
Gama as a player;
Gama before joining coaching, after school football, he joined Hoima Junior in 1995 up to 1997 and after the two years l, in 1998, he was signed at Lincoln FC Nakawa in 2nd division, now the 5th tier division.
As a developing player then, in the same year Kamwokya United signed him by then in 1st division of Nakawa.
He later joined the Gunners FC under Coach Zagaro in Nakawa 4th Division in 1999 and played for URA Lyantonde in the mini league under Jackson Mayanja in 2000.
He was recruited to join SC Villa in 2000/2001 by Tamale Kapera (RIP) but his move was cut short by the knee injury.
In 2003/2004 season, Gama joined Police FC and he only spent 4 months with the cops and was dropped because of the earlier knee injury and that’s how he joined coaching at Jogoo young.
