Mohammed Said Benrama and Houssem Auoar scored for Algeria to defeat Uganda 2-1 in the 2026 World Cup Qualifier group G match played on Monday at Mandela National stadium Namboole.
Former West ham United and Lyon star Benrama found the winner for his team when he calmly put the ball behind the back of the net to silence the big crowd at Namboole.
Early in the second half, Aouar had equalized for the visitors just seconds from the dressing room before the. Former Brentford man found the winner.
Travis Mutyaba had given the hosts an early 11th minute lead with a wonder strike which Uganda managed to hold on to half time.
The hosts got an opportunity to double the lead in the 38th minute, but Mukwala missed the target in the 18 yard box area.
Sadio Benrama got the best chance for Algeria in the first half but his well crafted effort hit the goal post and returned to hands of Uganda goalkeeper Watenga.
Another first half chance for the visitors to level terms, fell to defender Madani but his header effort went inches over the bar.
Forward Rogers Mato, Bobosi Byaruhanga and Travis Mutyaba and Ronald Sekiganda were the Uganda Cranes players booked on the night.
Coach Paul Put brought on Kakande Patrick and Ibrahim Kasule for Mutyaba and Bobosi as his last substitutions in the 87th minute,and they seemed promising but had a few minutes to play .
Algeria elevates to 9 points, Guinea and Mozambique, Uganda and Botswana are tied at 6 points.
