
Kitende, Kawempe, Bethel Crowned Champions in USSSA Elite Tournament.
SMASK, STAHIZA, Bethel Convenant, Kawempe, all walked away with trophies in the USSSA Elite Games that Climaxed on Sunday.
Hosts St Mary’s Secondary School Kitende (SMASK) and Kawempe Moslem have been crowned Champions of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Elite championship in Men’s and Women’s Football respectively.
Kitende and Kawempe were crowned champions on Sunday after collecting maximum points in the three day’s tournament that was played on round-robin basis.
It was earlier communicated that the two teams that will top the table by collecting maximum points will play the finals which was later changed as the tournament drew close to the end.
SMASK team A won the title with three wins and a draw. They defeated Dynamic SSS, STAHIZA, their Junior side Kitende B and drew with Royal Giant High School from Mityana.
Kawempe Moslem girls managed a draw with St Noa, beat God Cares High School and Gadafi International to emerge champions.

Bethel and SMASK won the boys and girls basketball titles respectively.

Standard High School Zana won Volley men, Katikamu SDA scopped the girls title and SMASK won the netball trophy.

The Elite games climaxed with an entertaining football match between St Mary’s Kitende team A and Royal Giant Mityana that ended 1-1.

Fazil Tumwine scored for SMASK and Issa Bugembe leveled with a cracker.

USSSA president Patrick Okanya was greatful to the hosts Kitende, State minister for Sports and the different head teachers for their support for the success of the games.
We thank God we are here after years, we thank his excellence Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for opening schools and sports. I want to thank the first lady for the love for Education and Sports. We thank the minister Dennis Obua who has been with us every time.
I want to thank and welcome our Chief guest the Commissioner, on the same note I want to thank the wonderful hosts, the organizers they did a great job. We did not pay for anything here, they provided food, medical and everything and we thank Standard High Zana as well, we thank the participating teams, thank the media, welfare, spectators, players and everyone. And on the same note we want to apologise for anything that has gone wrong. Okanya noted.
Okanya also highlighted on a number of events that will occur this year and among them is the Fresh Diary games that will be hosted by Gulu city.
Among others are; National championship (Copa Coca Cola) that will be hosted by Arua Town in April. And the World-18 cross country that will be held in Slovakia.
The chief guest flanked by USSSA finance boss and STAHIZA director Mr Justus Mugisha was the Commissioner for physical planning and Sports Rev Canon Duncans Mugumya who praised God for the susccesful tournament and argued students to get involved in more Sports activities.
It’s by God’s grace that we are here and that this has happened, today gives me great joy that Secondary games are back, I bring to you greetings from ministry of Education and Sports, more so from the first lady Hon. Janat Museveni who allowed us get back to the pitch. I thank USSSA for the organization and those that produced the players.
