Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (Games 2022) hosts St Mary’s Secondary School Kitende, Standard High School Zana (STAHIZA) and Gadafi International kicked off the games with wins on day one of the the three days tournament.
St Mary’s Kitende that managed to present two teams; Kitende A and Kitende B after some schools pulled out, got two wins from the two games games played by both teams.
Kitende strong team (SMASK A) humiliated Dynamic Secondary School 3-0 in the second game that was played in the afternoon at St Mary’s Stadium.
SMASK starting XI included; Ronald Kiberu(GK) Emmanuel Munoobi, Enock Luyima, Ronald Mada,Rogers Torach, Frank Katongole, John Kokas Alou, Andrew Kawooya(C), Fazil Tumwine, Hassan Mubiru, Habib Oloya
Kitende cream team (SMASK A) missed services of StarTimes Uganda Premier league players; KCCA FC’s Charles Lwanga and Vipers’ duo of Ivan Ashaba and Yiga Najib that have not been training with the team with club commitments.
Forward Tumwine Fazil bagged a brace scoring in the 4th and 19th minute and later substitute Olega Brain put the icing on the cake in the added minutes.
Dynamic XI had; Shafiq Dalega, Bonny Otim, Shafiq Lubega, Allan Enyou, David Tandeka, Mathew Lusudi, Amos Ayikobwa, Alex Yiga (C), Jimmy Muber, Pius Kakande, Adan Mpiima.
Kitende team B that was mostly comprised of fringe players, came from behind to defeat COPA Coca Cola 2017 Champions Jinja SSS in the last boys’ football game.
Kaija David had given the Jinja Giants the lead in the 8th minute from a well struck freekick, but Munubi Magidu, Balaza Raymond and Opiro Justin scored for Kitende in the 28th, 46th 83rd respectively to end the game 3-1.
Kitende neighbours STAHIZA also kicked off the tournament on a bright note when they edged a very resilient Royal Giant High School side 1-0 in the tournament opener at 11am.
Bashir Kintu scored the all important goal for Ex International Nestroy Kizito coached side in the 77th minute to ensure STAHIZA kick off with maximum points.
The USSSA Elite tournament is a competition aimed at preparing the so called Elite teams for the National championship (Copa Coca Cola games).
The Elite teams are those schools that managed to finish in top 8 places of the previous National Championship.
Schools that have maneged to take part in this year’s edition include hosts Kitende, Dynamic Secondary School,Standard High School Zana, Mary Hill School Katikamu SDA, Jinja SSS, Kawempe Muslim, St Noa, Royal Giants, Mityana, Nabisunsa Girls
Teams that were considered elites but didnot turn include; Buddo SSS, Mengo Senior School, Iganga, JIPRA.
Boys football action returns tomorrow morning at 9am and it’s a round robin tournament and the two teams that will finish top will play the finals on Sunday.
In the girls football games played today, Nancy Mandela and Susan Nalulonda scored for St Noa and Kawempe respectively in a 1-1 draw in the morning.
In the other game, Gadafi International walked away with maximum points after God Cares High School’s Akantu Brenda scored in her own net.
Hosts SMASK Head teacher of O-Level section Sembatya Jimmy Mukasa who also doubles as the Sports Patron, welcomed all the schools that turned up.
” I appreciate the organising committee that has enabled this, and on the same note I want to welcome all the schools, every one should feel at home and comfortable at the home of talents.
I Want you to participate as fairly as possible, St Mary’s is a home of talents, we encourage sports as much as possible, feel safe & participate accordingly.
We are to be here for three days from Friday to Sunday. We expect everyone to follow the SOPs.

The USSSA President Patrick Okanya appreciated the hosts and urged the participants to behave well.
