KCCA FC Maintain Momentum With Dramatic Comeback Win Over Lugazi FC

KCCA FC delivered a dramatic 2-1 comeback win over Lugazi FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on a cool evening in Kampala.

For starters , KCCA FC started brightly with Anyama testing Lugazi goalkeeper Batali Allan with a powerful strike that was punched away.

Moments later, Sammy Ssebadduka delivered a cutback from an Achai free-kick but defender Filbert Obenchan’s attempt went over the bar.

At the other end, drama erupted when Lugazi FC players and their technical bench claimed the ball had crossed the line after KCCA goalkeeper Mutwalibi Mugolofa failed to control a back-pass from midfielder Elvis Ngonde.

In the 18th minute, Lugazi’s Juma Ssajjabi saw his free-kick saved by KCCA FC goalkeeper Mutwalibi Mugolofa before Obenchan cleared the danger.

Brian Jjara tried a long-range effort just before halftime but dragged it wide while striker Ivan Ahimbisibwe had his first attempt blocked out for a corner on the stroke of halftime.

The second half started with Saidi Mayanja missing a tap-in after Ssebadduka’s cutback.

Shortly after, KCCA right-back Lazaro Muhindo crossed a teaser for Ahimbisibwe, who headed over.

Lugazi FC broke the deadlock in the 55th minute.

Mulambuzi’s shot was deflected by Obenchan for a corner and from Frank Mulimi’s delivery, Cromwell Rwothomio rose unmarked to head home.

KCCA responded with urgency.

Pacy winger Sammy Ssebadduka had a great chance after outpacing left-back Ssajjabi but goalkeeper Batali produced a stunning one handed save.

The hosts finally equalized in the 65th minute through substitutes.

Midfielder Ibrahim Kasule’s well-delivered corner found his fellow substitute Charles Lwanga who headed home to make it 1-1.

“The game has not been easy, but if you want to be champions you have to win games like these. We don’t want to get excited now. We have to remain resilient to maintain doing our best to win games and winning the trophy at the end,” KCCA Head Coach Brian Ssenyondo reacted after the win.

KCCA kept control of the game and found the winner late on when substitute Shafik Nana Kwikiriza delivered a well-measured cross for Sammy Ssebadduka who rose high to head into the net and send the KCCA fans into madness.
