The Gomba “Lions” March to Wankulukuku for the Masaza Cup 2026 Finals

Five-time champions Gomba Ssaza FC progressed to the final of the 2026 Airtel Masaza Cup and will face Kyaggwe Ssaza FC in a highly anticipated final at Muteesa II Stadium Wankulukuku on Saturday 31st October, 2026.

For starters , Gomba are the inaugural champions of the Masaza Cup and their journey to this year’s final has been one of resilience and pedigree.

Coached by Felix Ssekabuuza Kawooya, Gomba was potted in the tricky Masengere Group alongside Kyaggwe, Busiro, Bulemeezi, Mawokota and Ssese.

They played 10 games in the group stages managing to win five, drawing four and losing just one.

The Gomba “Lions” collected 19 points to finish second behind table leaders Kyaggwe Ssaza who had 23 points.

Interestingly, Gomba will be facing Kyaggwe for the third time this season.

In the two group meetings, they drew 0-0 at Kabulasoke on matchday five and then 1-1 at Bishop’s SS in Mukono where Kyaggwe hosted them on matchday nine.

Coming into the quarterfinals, Gomba faced three-time champions Buddu Ssaza FC.

During the first leg, Gomba won it 3-0 courtesy of goals from Muhammad Kasule, Alfred Ssebunya and Hassan Wasswa.

This gave Gomba Ssaza FC a great first-leg advantage and although they lost 1-0 away in Masaka in the second leg to a strike from Buddu’s Sunny Kaija, they advanced with a 3-1 aggregate.

Gomba then advanced to the semifinals where they played against Butambala Ssaza FC.

At home, their top marksman Muhammad Kasule scored a brace to seal a 2-0 win in the first leg of the semifinal. In the second leg, Butambala failed to use home advantage because Gomba showed their pedigree with a 1-0 win, giving them a 3-0 aggregate victory.

Striker Hassan Waiswa’s lone strike sealed it for Gomba to progress to the finals.

Gomba has won the Masaza Cup five times in 2004, 2009, 2014, 2017 and 2020.

Last season they did not proceed out of the group stages.

Heading into the final, all eyes will be on strikers Hassan Waiswa and Muhammad Kasule to deliver for Gomba.

Gomba’s Muhammad Kasule

Kasule has been the Lions’ top marksman with crucial goals and also Hassan Waiswa has proved to be the big-game player with a goal against Buddu and the decisive winner that sealed their place in the final.

With their 6th title mission on the line, can the striking duo lead Gomba Ssaza FC under defending champion Coach Felix Ssekabuuza and Manager Betty Mbatidde to overcome two-time finalists Kyaggwe in a highly anticipated final at Wankulukuku?
