The Entebbe Christmas Cup has officially been launched at the event held this evening 17th October at Ponus restaurant -Entebbe and it is set to kick off on Thursday 24 October 2024 and will end on Christmas day.
The winner of the Championship, will walk a way with a bull (200kgs), Trophy, gold medals, a set of jerseys and the finalist will take home a goat, silver medals, set of jersey with the 3rd and 4th placed teams to be rewarded.
The tournament chairperson Ramathan Kasirye, expressed his happiness for the turn up at the Launch and teams to participate in the 3rd edition.
” I want to officially launch this tournament and the winner of this tournament will take the trophy for keeps, I would love to appreciate the different team managers for coming up and you will be key in this tournament success. We welcome the sponsors; Counsel Deric is our official tournament sponsors and we welcome AWEL Tours on board as well. We agreed with Counsel Deric that he shouldn’t have a team in this tournament. This tournament doesn’t have any political affiliation, but we are celebrating the birth of Jesus while playing football. I conclude by thanking all of you football people in Entebbe. Let’s be co-operative as teams for the success of the tournament, I want to officially confirm the bull will be 200kgs according to my sponsor.” He stated.
” I want to confirm, no member on the organising committee has attachment to any team for the fairness and smooth running.” Kasirye added.
Speaking at the event, tournament sponsor Mulumbi Derick alias Counsel Deric is hopeful the area is yet to experience the best tournament and confirmed everything is ready for the best team to win.
” I want to first appreciate my teacher who is here today, appreciate the CEO for the opportunity to be sponsor of this edition and I believe this is going to be the best tournament, all the different team managers, thank you so much, I want to confirm, I don’t have any team in this tournament, this time round am a sponsor, am here as a sponsor strictly but not participating, I will buy water for each team on every matchday, and I will make sure the quality of the jerseys is good. I must confirm, even if the final is tomorrow am ready, and am also going to try look for more to add on the prizes to be won, May the best team win. The team that will win the first match will get a set of jersey from me.” Counsel Deric concluded.
Teams that have confirmed their participation so include; Entebbe Police FC, Falcon, Monaco, Team Allan, May Christian college, Garuga Stars, Mpala , Katabi Boda Boda, Five Stars , Kabale A, Tanda FC, Counsel Jonathan Mwesigwa FC, Busabala FC and three slots are up for grabs.
Each team pays registration fees of shs 150.000 and will pay refereeing fees of shs 35.000 per match day.
Individual awards will go to best coach, best manager, MVP, most disciplined player, young players, etc.
The four teams that will play in the semi-finals this year, will each get a set of jerseys and every team that will participate in this year’s edition will get balls and certificates according to the tourney CEO.
The tournament top scorer will be awarded with a flat screen television.
Counsel Deric FC beat Kasenyi 3-1 last year and they will not be part of this year’s edition.
Kawafu FC won the first edition in 2022, before Counsel Deric won it last year.
AWEL tours and travels agency are other partners that have joined Counsel Deric to sponsor the prestigious tournament.
