Following the recent passing of former Uganda Cranes goalkeeper and coach Fred Kajoba, who was goal keeping coach for Tanzanian side Ihefu SC, the football community has been honoring his memory and reflecting on his profound influence on the game.
During his illustrious career, Kajoba represented clubs like Coffee and Simba before transitioning into coaching roles with Bright Stars, Vipers, and Simba, in addition to serving as the goalkeeping coach for the Uganda Cranes. His impact on players and coaches alike is deeply felt, leaving behind a legacy that will endure.
At Bright Stars FC, where he spent five impactful years before his departure in 2019, Kajoba left an indelible mark on both the club and Ugandan football as a whole.
Joseph Harold Mutyaba, the current head coach of Bright Stars FC and a former teammate of Kajoba with the Uganda Cranes, spoke fondly of the late coach, highlighting his role as a pillar of the game. Mutyaba emphasized Kajoba’s dedication to hard work and his efforts to foster a sense of unity among former players.
Nelson Senkatuka, appointed captain by Kajoba during his tenure at Bright Stars, fondly remembers him as a caring and influential figure who significantly contributed to the club’s development. Senkatuka credits Kajoba with elevating his status within the team and instilling values that continue to guide him.
Coach Kajoba was caring ,he spent his Christmas season helping the less privileged and would share the little he had.
He really believed in me i can say that he made me captain of Bright stars only three days into my tenure at the club, he said to me i want you to lead from the front and set the standard around here.
Simon Peter Mugerwa, head coach of Police FC, described Kajoba as a mentor and expressed sadness over his passing. Mugerwa recalled seeking advice from Kajoba during his time at Bright Stars and acknowledged the invaluable guidance he provided to players.
Fred Kajoba’s funeral is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 19th, in Bukenya village along Mityana road, as the football community mourns the loss of a beloved figure whose impact will be remembered for years to come.
