Federation of Uganda Football association (FUFA) has released the Junior’s league fixtures for the Western and Nothern region Football association due to kick off.
In both regions, the Junior’s games will kick of on 10th December 2022 with three games in the West and six (6) in the North on match day one.
The Sixth(6th) edition of the FUFA Juniors’ league (FJL), will this time be played in the eight regions country wide; Kampala, Buganda, Northern, Western, Kitara, Eastern, West Nile and North East.
The games started in Kampala region earlier and have also kicked off in the Buganda region.
After match day 4 in the Kampala region, KCCA FC JT tops the log with maximum 14 points with 4 wins from 4, KJT second placed with 13points from 5 games.
The draft fixtures for the Kitara region, have also been released and tentatively the league will kick off on 17th December 2022.
In the Buganda Region, games started earlier and current Vipers SC JT tops the league.
According to FUFA youth development officer Bashir Mutyaba, the league will soon kick off in the other three regions! Westnile, North East and Eastern.
” The league will soon kick off in the remaining three regions, and this time, after finding the winners of the different regions, we will have atournament at a central venue and this is where we shall determine the overall champion.” Mutyaba told Sports256.
After match day 2 games, Vipers SC JT lead Buganda Region FA with maximum 8 points, 6 from the two wins and 2 bonus points, Janan SA, Royal FA and URA FC JT are 2nd, 3rd and 4th with 8,5 and 5 respectively.
Mutyaba also highlighted on some of the key issues as to why the format of the FJL was changed in the 6th edition as well as involving other academies that are not attached to SUPL Clubs.
” In the 6th edition, our target is to establish standard youth competitions throughout the country, try to widen the pool of young players, give an opportunity to youth players in various regions especially in areas without a Uganda premier league club.”
” We also thought of doing extensive talent identification and scouting from a bigger pool by first of all reducing on the distance traveled by players during the league to give them room to concentrate on academics as well.” he added.
” Another thing we looked at is to try identify, train and educate youth coaches from various regions and create a database of Youth players.
” We think this format will help us monitor the progress of young players and also give an opportunity to other academies and their players to participate in FUFA Competitions.” He concluded.
