Apollo Kagogwe: Tooro United FC Teenager Keeping The Cranes Dream Alive

The teenager believes, his childhood dream of playing for the Cranes is close.

Like it is a dream for many young football players to represent their respective national teams, the same applies to Tooro United Football Club teenager Apollo Kagogwe.

The Eighteen (18) year old defender who has so far had a bright and promising football career, believes, he is in the right direction to achieve his childhood dream of playing for the Uganda National Football team, the Cranes

At just 18 years of age, Kagogwe has had quick progress, from Express Junior team and St Mary’s Kitende Secondary School to a key figure in the Tooro United FC squad in the StarTimes Uganda Premier league.

My dream is to give my best to game, be among the next big name players in country, make it to the professional ranks, achieve from football and make my parents and people around me proud.” Kagogwe told Sports256.

I want to be big in the country, play for my country something i have dreamt of since i started the game that i think is not far from happening now.

My journey has been long to where i am now, but things have also been going on well for me, am a kind of player who loves improving each day, so in a year of few years to come, am seeing a great player out of me, playing for the national team and playing professional football so that, i can also inspire the young ones out there just the Onyango’s have done.” He added.

The young defender, made his Uganda premier league debut at home against UPDF FC and hasn’t missed a single game for the Buhinga side.

Kagogwe, who is yet to score in the Premier league for the struggling bottom placed side, had missed the season first seven (7) games because his licence was not yet out.

Speaking to Sports256 media in an exclusive interview, the young star also shared his personal and club target this season.

I have a big platform at Tooro to showcase my abilities, get the experience and attain my dream being summoned to the Cranes in my first top tier season. As a team our main target is to survive relegation which is attainable and is in our hands. We need atleast 8/9 wins from the 17 games.

Kagogwe inspired by his dad to play the game, he is now delightful that he has already registered reasonable success and has made viewable achievements .

I started realising i would play football at the age of eight when my father who inspired me to play the game took me to Black arrows SA, so when we won our first trophy, this when i realised i could play football to the top.

By then we used to play to get bursaries only by then but we never knew its business like now that its one of the biggest sources of income.

My father made me love the game for the support he used to give me then, used to take me to watch football and my coach Baker Senabulya also put a block.

I can proudly say, since i was a kid, the talent has paid my school fees, the game has also helped me get close to many important people that have helped me, have moved countries in East Africa

His dad Matia Kigoye supports Express FC and he is great fan the English Premier league side Arsenal FC.

The teeneger also pointed at some StarTimes Uganda Premier league stars among his role models.

Have taken some good time watching Murushid Juuko at the national team and as well learning from him, Vipers captain Lwaliwa i have also tried following his characters on and off the pitch, Patrick Paul Mbowa and the other player could be Revita John.

Kagogwe, after an impressive Copa Coca Cola 2019 and East Africa games with Standard High School, joined St Mary’s Kitende where he only played Elite Schools Championships and Schools Zonal qualifiers because of the COVID 19 Pandemic.
