FBL:DOUGLAS OYIRWOTH CAPTAINS NTUGASAZE FC TO THE HISTORIC UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE PROMOTION

Ntugasaze FC is heading to the Startimes Uganda Premier League next season, and at the heart of it is captain and left back Douglas Oyirwoth.

The hardworking defender led Ntugasaze to a historic UPL promotion after a 2-1 home win over Bunyarugura Utd FC at Kavumba Recreation Centre.

That result sealed their place alongside already promoted Blacks Power FC and Kigezi HomeBoyz FC.

One slot remains for the final team to join them in the top tier.

Ntugasaze’s season has been built on consistency.

They have won 13 games, drawn 11, and lost 5, collecting 50 points.

That leaves them 3rd and three points behind 5th-placed Paidha Black Angels, but with a superior head-to-head record after drawing 1-1 in Paidha and winning 3-1 at home.

Even if they lose their final game, promotion is already secured.

Fans call Oyirwoth “Luo bwoy,” and it’s easy to see why he is earned that reputation.

He is a modern left back with the balance of defensive solidity and technical quality.

Defensively, he reads the game well, times his tackles cleanly, and rarely gets caught out of position.

Going forward, Douglas is comfortable on the ball, delivers accurate crosses, and uses his left foot to dictate tempo from the flank.

That combination made him a key outlet for Ntugasaze all season.

“It was not a coincidence because we have really worked so hard for this from the beginning of the season,” Captain Oyirwoth said after confirming promotion.

“Togetherness and teamwork earned us this victory.”

Oyirwoth brings experience to the squad too.

Before Ntugasaze, he featured for Synergy FC, Mbarara City, and UPDF FC, and that composure showed in the run-in.

Kataka FC and Paidha Black Angels SC will battle it out for the last promotion spot.

For Oyirwoth, the journey from the lower tiers to captaining a club into the UPL is a reward for years of graft.

Ntugasaze will be hoping his defensive intelligence and technical ability translate just as well against the league’s best next season.
