Ssemugabi’s lone strike for Kitara sinks wasteful Police
Jude Ssemugabi scored for Kitara Football club to defeat Police FC 1-0 in the StarTimes Uganda Premier league game played on Thursday at Kavumba Recreation grounds in Wakiso.
Cranes forward Ssemugabi found the back of the net in the 55th minute when he headed in from close range.
Kitara were lucky to pick maximum points after captain Jesper Ahebwa made a goal-line clearance on substitute Ogweti’s effort in the added minutes.
Police star man Brian Obedi, also got an opportunity to find the equaliser, but his half volley effort went inches over the bar.
Ogweti, shortly after being introduced, he got a quick opportunity to level the game but he was denied by goalkeeper Crispus Kusiima.
Midfielders; Frank Tumwesigye and David Ndihabwe got the visitors quick first half chances, Zaga effort went inches wide and Ndihabwe was denied by goal keeper Kasibante.
Striker Patrick Kaddu wasted a golden free-kick opportunity on the 18 yard box line after Rayan Figo brought down Jude Ssemugabi.
Another first half opportunity for the visitors, fell to Zaga but his shot inside the 18yard box was blocked for a corner.
Forward Looki Emmanuel was denied by Crispus Kusiima and Figo Rayan tried from long range but couldn’t hit the target.
Wasswa Bbosa brought on winger Byaruhanga and Solomon Okwalinga for Amaku and Ndihabwe and later replaced Sematimba with Mober.
Dennis Kalanzi, Looki Emmanuel and Muwangizi were replaced by Ogweti, Herman Wasswa and Mugume for the visitors.
Cops head coach Mugerwa Simon Peter disappointed with the result, was however impressed with the boys show.
“It was a good performance by the players though the result was bad, we have been in the game from the start to the end, we created chances but failed to score and Kitara used their chance. Now we turn our focus on improving on what we haven’t done right today in our next game.” Mugerwa stated.
Kitara FC elevated to 4th place on the log with 32 points climbing above KCCA FC and URA FC.
Elsewhere, NEC FC defeated Express FC 3-1 in the 7pm game played at Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
