Mucureezi Scores & Assists in NEC FC win against Express to keep title hopes alive.

Midfielder Paul Mucureezi scored the second and assisted for the third as NEC Football Club registered their 14th win of the season with a comfortable 3-1 victory over struggling Express FC in the StarTimes Uganda Premier league game played today Thursday night at MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.

Muzamiru Mutyaba, Paul Mucureezi and Allan Mugalu were on target for NEC to ensure their side get maximum points to close the gap with log leaders Vipers SC to two (2) points.

Veteran Midfielder Mutyaba opened the scoring inside the first five minutes with a well struck shot outside the 18-yards box that beat goal keeper Micheal Kagiri.

Winger Paul Mucureezi doubled the lead in the 24th minute, when he connected well to captain Marvin Kavuma well crafted cross and he is also credited for his expertise and individual brilliance when he set up Mugalu for the third.

Substitute Mugalu calmly put the game out of reach for the Red Eagles in the 55th minute when he pounded in the third from close range after Mucureezi picked him up inside the 18 yard box.

Substitute Conrad Ssenjogera scored the consolation for the Red Eagles struggling to return to winning ways having lost three consecutive games and four in the last five outings

NEC at 47 points, two behind leaders Vipers, haven’t lost a game in the last 5 games, winning 3 and drawing at two occasions.

Title race

With 9-10 games remaining, in the league Vipers that will have a short trip to Wankulukuku on Saturday to face rivals SC Villa, have 49 points, NEC is second placed with 47, and BUL FC in third place, is 12 points behind second placed NEC.

Vipers SC with a game in hand, will play away to SC Villa this Saturday and in the next game will host middle team Lugazi FC on 3rd April and NEC will have a tricky trip to Bombo to face another middle table team UPDF.
