Excitement as football action returns to ESA Park After a while with Agada Cup 35+
After an extremely, amusing and successful Nile Special ESA Park premier league (EPPL) weeks ago, Entebbe revellers can smile again as football action returns to Entebbe Soccer Academy (ESA) Park artificial turf in Kitubulu with the Agada Cup.
The tournament named Agada Cup in honour of the most senior citizen ‘Mzee Baba Agada Adam aged 94, is set to kick off on Saturday 7th with the elder expected to be the chief guest at the grand opening of the inaugural tournament.
The organising committe, expressed their readiness to roll off the tournament as Grace Kintu pointed in an exclusive interview with this site.
” It’s clear that the Agadah Cup dubbed EPAC 35+, starts this Saturday 7th, We will start with Dhuwa prayers and then the games shall begin. Each game day card will be having 6 games since the cup has 12 teams participating. The teams that have registered should expect the best competition as it was in the EPPL. We always try to give our participants the best experience whenever they engage in ESA activities, so this time shall not be any different.” He stated.
” As for the challenging part, we have not yet got sponsors on board, but trying beyond our best to attract different financial players to come on board and push the tournament to our expectations.
As for our growing fan base, let them get their weekend and sports wear ready as we are unveiling another action packed tournament. Basically everything is set. The medical team, the security crew, the referee body, the organising committee are all set.”
” The screening process is still underway to make sure that no player below the minimum age sneaks Into the tournament. Basically, everything is set. Just hoping for the best.” Kintu added.
Godfrey Tours and travels Company FC manager Wasswa Ramos, expressed their readiness to compete for the biggest prize as they kick off the journey with Friends of Football.
” We decided to take part in the tournament specifically to give back to the community in which we work in, as people born and bred in the area we believe, if there is anything that benefits the society we live in we should be part of it, as Godfrey tours, our target is to win the competition so that we can have this trophy in our office, and we promise that we shall always be part of all other tournaments at ESA Park.” Wasswa stated.
Sixers FC manager Alexander Oboi, is as well hopeful, his side could build on last tournament success to achieve in the EPAC.
” As a team we took part last year in the 35+ tournament in Namulanda where we won. We defeated Entebbe legends in the final 3:2.
This time round in the 35+ edition in kitubulu our target is to reach the final.” Oboi told Sports256
About Sixers
Sixers, is a group of senior men, that came together to form a football team for social and health reasons which has been in existence since 2019.
CBICE team captain Steven Ochan is optimistic, his side can defy odds and win this 35 plus tournament after an impressive show in the league.
” Our target this time round is a top finish and having learnt so much from the EPPL we tend to use our experience to conquer this upcoming tournament and also welcome new signings into the club.” Ochan told this site.
For starters, the ESA Park Agada Cup (EPAC) 35+, is organized for players above the age of thirty five and it will be played every Saturday and it is expected to be completed in a period less than two months.
According to tournament rules and regulations, one player aged 30-35 that will be allowed for each participating team, that’s in case the team needs him.
There is also an allowance of adding a goal keeper who could be below the age of 35 for any particular team.
Match day 1 fixtures slated for Saturday 7th October 2022, will see EPPL Club Public Beach face Unique in the early kick off at 4pm and Semutundu will tackle Tanda Old Stars in the other group A game at 5:20pm.
Other two EPPL sides Kayinja and Entebbe Corporate Brotherhood Investment Club (CBICE), will also feature in this inaugural tournament as the take on Entebbe Old Stars and Sixers at 6:40 and 8pm respectively.
Friends of Football will entertain Godfrey Tours in the second last game of the night and the late kick off at 10:40pm will be between Football For All (FFA) and Kataka Sunday Special.
EPPL Clubs; Public Beach, CBICE, Kayinja and FFA have got an edge of winning this competition having been part of the hotly contested premier league that was won by Nature Waste Management.
Friends of Football is another side to look out for in this tournament, having recruited most of NWM players aged 35 and above.
The winner of the tournament will take home a bull, a trophy, a ball and a set of jersey, then the 2nd and 3rd winners shall also be rewarded with prizes accordingly.
