After almost two years when football has been interrupted by the COVID -19 pandemic in the country, Nkumba- Entebbe people welcome back the beautiful game with Independence tournament.
Entebbe’s biggest soccer academy and as well rated one of the most organised in the country Five Stars, and the ‘Money bags’ Pool Arena are rated favorites to scoop the biggest award as we dive into the tournament on Thursday.
Pool Arena will heavily rely on the spending spree of the team manager Isaac Luweesi who is willing to spend hugely on big name players for instant success.
Pool Arena coach Jeff Muganwa expressed his readiness to compete for the big prize speaking to Sports256.
Depending on the players we have most of them being Pool game players, i will look at positions where i can add a few players to form a strong squad that can make us proud.
Five Stars FC manager Shafiq Kakooza also pointed at quality in the squad in and good preparations as key to their title chase.
” The preparations are very good And we promise to be the champions of the independence cup for the second time
We have managed to get well good talented players and good coaches with experience to help the team win.”
So far eight teams have comfirmed and met the organisers’ requirements and four are expected to finalise by the end of Wednesday business according to tournament chairman Nasser Kyeyune.
We have decided to organise this independence cup with the essence of celebrating the day by continuing from where we had stopped to promote our own talents in the area that is why we have excluded the Startimes Uganda premier league stars. This tournament will give the young players hope that they will play again and earn.
The teams that are expected to come in late include; Team Kasenyi, Kawafu Fc and two other late comers yet to be revealed.
The tournament that will only be played from Thursday to Sunday kicks off Kicks off this Thursday 16th at Nkumba Kataka.
The winner of the tournament will walk away with a trophy, gold medals, prize money, set of jersey and hopefuly a Bull as the chairman Kyeyune states.
” So far we have those for the winner but we expect and call upon potential sponsors to come m board and join us to promote the game togather. We expect to buy a bull as well if all goes well with sponsors on board.”
Entebbe play Kitinda in the opener, but the fans will be eagerly waiting for what the most vocal team Pool Arena FC will display on Saturday, and as well, the Kataka derby on Sunday when Sunday Special take on Five Stars FC.
