The BET Award winner Edrisah Musuuza alias Eddy Kenzo came on as a second half substitute as his home district-Kazo played to a barren draw with Ibanda in the Ankole Cup group B game played over the weekend.

The huge crowd that turned up for the game erupted in elation as the ‘Sitya Loss’ and ‘Stamina’ hit maker was introduced by their new coach Alex Kizito that replaced Kyeyune Thomas Ezra at the official unveiling ceremony held a few days ago.

It was an exhilarating moment for all the western Uganda people to welcome back their own Kenzo, one of Uganda’s most celebrated artists, to support and play for his home district Kazo.

Alex Kizito at the helm as coach, after stepping down as Gomba Ssaza first assistant coach, was happy with the start of the huge task at an extremely demanding trophy-hungry Kazo that played in the last year’s final.

So far, the people here are friendly here, just that as you know how the new environment could be challenging sometimes, there is what you come with and what they have so it takes some time to harmonise and agree on what to do.
Kazo playing in last year’s final, is a clear indication that our target is to win the trophy this season.
Getting a point in Ibanda, is a plus because the team has taken too long losing whenever they visited them, but we can not get excited because it’s just the start. Because my target was to get maximum points and in reference to the proceedings on the pitch, we dominated the game 80%, but we failed to utilise our chances to score, this means we are going to take home the positives and rectify the few mistakes I identified before our next game on Saturday.
In his last words, the former Wakiso Giants Junior team, Mivule Primary School coach, disclosed how important is having a person of Kenzo’s status as Kazo.
Eddy Kenzo, playing in this tournament, is purposely to help promote more talents in the area and in Uganda. We all know Kenzo has academies in Mbarara, Big Talent in Kampala, so being here, he will also provide the Kazo people with more of such. Kizito added.
Earlier on Saturday, Bushenyi District played to a goal-less draw with Sheema District with both teams chasing their first ever title.

For starters, Buhweju district won the innugural Ankole Tournament title in 2022 and successfully defended it in 2023.
Rubirizi district lifted the prestigious title in 2024, and Isingiro edged Kazo to win it last year.
