UFL:NKUMBA UNIVERSITY BACK IN QUARTER FINALS AFTER YMCA WITHDRAWN
YMCA Comprehensive Institute has been withdrawn from the University Football League (UFL) after being found guilty of fielding an ineligible player.
The UFL Disciplinary Committee, led by Chairman Bainamani Bernard, ruled that YMCA breached league rules by fielding NDUGU JOHN and KISEKKA JOHN in a group stage game against ISBAT University on March 17, 2026.
The committee’s findings, based on evidence presented by Nkumba University, showed that NDUGU JOHN (born 21st December 1996) was ineligible due to age, lacking a national ID with NIN CM960231087X0J.
KISEKKA JOHN lacked the required 5 principal O’Level passes, and YMCA’s equivalence argument was rejected.
YMCA had argued NDUGU JOHN was born in 2001 and hadn’t played for Bunyarugura Utd FC, but couldn’t provide a valid ID.
For KISEKKA JOHN, they claimed he had equivalent qualifications, having done a Junior Certificate in Tailoring and a Certificate in Industrial Art & Design before a diploma course.
The Disciplinary Committee suggested the LOC to provide clarity regarding determining equivalence for the 5 principle O’Level passes.
The committee awarded the match to ISBAT University with a 3-0 score, fined YMCA UGX 300,000 (petition cost), and YMCA can appeal within 48 hours.

Nkumba University’s quarterfinal matchup against Kumi University stands, with Kumi hosting the first leg on Friday March 27, 2026.
