Calvary FC and Coach Jimmy Kintu Mwera Part Ways Amid Financial Struggles

Uganda Premier League newcomers Calvary FC have confirmed the departure of head coach Jimmy Kintu Mwera, barely five matches into the club’s maiden season in the top flight.

The announcement was made on Monday, November 10, 2025, through an official statement released on the club’s social media platforms.

“The club has mutually agreed to part ways with Head Coach Jimmy Kintu Mwera,” the statement read in part.
“We extend our sincere appreciation to Coach Kintu for his contributions during his tenure and wish him success in his future endeavours,” it added.

However, sources indicate that Kintu’s exit follows his growing frustration over delayed salary payments. The coach reportedly laid down his tools after expressing discomfort and disappointment with the club’s financial situation.

According to a source close to the team, both players and technical staff have gone four months without pay, creating a difficult working environment for the newly promoted side.

On the pitch, Calvary have endured a tough start to life in the Uganda Premier League. The Midigo-based club has managed just one point from five matches, drawing 1–1 with Maroons FC at Luzira, and suffering four defeats — 3–1 to Lugazi FC, 2–0 to Buhimba Saints, 4–2 to KCCA FC, and 4–2 to Entebbe UPPC FC.

Calvary’s next fixture is scheduled for Wednesday, November 19, against UPDF FC, as they look to bounce back from their early struggles.

Kintu, who has previously coached Kyetume FC and Uganda Christian University (UCU) in the University Football League, becomes the second coach to leave his position this season, following Hussein Mbalangu’s exit from NEC FC.

The club has now begun the search for a new head coach as it seeks to stabilize performances and avoid an immediate return to the FUFA Big League.
