St Andrew Kaggwa Gombe High School star man Travis Mutyaba hasn’t made it a secret that he wants to be tournament Most Valuable player and as well guide his school to their first ever National Post Primary title.
The SC Villa star revealed his targets speaking to Sports256 in an exclusive interview after a quarter final 1-0 win against 2017 national champions Jinja SS.
” It’s great we have done the job qualifying for the East Africa games on our first appearance at the national level which has been our target since joining the school.”
Mutyaba was greatful to the director, coaching staff and fellow players for the milestone.
” We were affected by COVID-19 last time but I want to thank fellow players for the effort from the start up to today, we are underrated because of our sizes but we believed in our selves but they a big hearted and they love what they do.”
” And I want to thank so much our Director Male Kiwalabye for the love and all he does for us, our management for the great job and more so thank God for enabling us. Every player knows that we are here not to participate but compete.”
About playing against Buddo SS in the semis, a team that has won this Championship before and they lost (1-0) to in the group stages, he had this to say;
” I know it’s going to be a very tough semi-final because the group didnot end well and my teammates fealt we could beat them and they won by luck. Boys are motivated by the fact that most of them want to play outside Uganda, this has also pushed them further. Mutyaba pointed out.
” As a player my targets are; after qualifying for East Africa is to help my team win the championship because we believe we can win it. Secondly, I want to be MVP as well because you can easily see that my school depends mostly on me and every opponent aim at me when Gombe is playing. So no doubt I want to be the best here as it is always my target.” He added.
Mutyaba praised some teammates he believes are big players in his team that help him make things happen.
” We have some other important players in the team like Midfielder Mimosa Yasiri, Our top Scorer Oscar Mawa and my captain Reagan Kasumba.” He stated.
Gombe will look on to Travis creativity and leading top Scorer Mawa who has managed 9 goals so far to eliminate Buddo.
Debutants Gombe High making their first appearance at Nationals, has already made history and playing in the semis.
It is the first appearance for Gombe High School in the nationals but not for Mutyaba who featured for Kawempe Royal College at the 2019 Nationals in Jinja.
