Goalkeeper Salim Ssekamwa the hero as Bugerere Ssaza team storm Masaza Cup 2026 semis

Bugerere Ssaza FC progressed to the semi-finals of the Buganda Masaza Cup 2026 after edging past Kyaddondo.

For starters, Bugerere knocked out Kyaddondo away at the Santana Wampeewo playground 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Abbas Muluya had opened the scoring for Kyaddondo before the break, but talented midfielder Osman Mayanja equalized for Bugerere to force the game into a shootouts.

Team captain and goalkeeper Salim Abudallah Ssekamwa was instrumental in Bugerere’s triumph as they continued their quest for silverware this season.

The shot stopper, who features for Edgars Football Club in the Kampala Regional League, saved Kyaddondo forward Sam Ssemugugu’s first penalty before stepping up to score the decisive winning penalty himself.

Furthermore, this marks Bugerere’s second consecutive semi-final appearance.

Last season, they lost to Ssingo Ssaza in the semis and subsequently lost 1-0 to Kyaggwe, the third-place playoff to finish fourth.

“I feel so happy, but I have to first thank the Coaches and my teammates for believing in me since day one in training that if at all we head into shootouts I have to step in and also to take the last penalty since it was planned,” Ssekamwa told Sports256 Media after the tense quarterfinal.

“My target this year is to win for Bugerere its first ever Masaza trophy,” the goalkeeper added.

Notably, Ssekamwa was part of the Buddu Ssaza FC squad that won the Masaza Cup in 2024.
