UFL:MUTEESA I ROYAL UNIVERSITY WINS MAIDEN TITLE OF THE PEPSI UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Muteesa I Royal University has made history by winning the University Football League 2025/2026 title for the first time ever, defeating YMCA 1-0 in a thrilling final at Hamz stadium Nakivubo.

The match, which kicked off at 3:35pm, was a closely contested affair, with YMCA’s Kisekka John testing Muteesa I Royal’s defence early on, only to be tracked well by Twaha Bukenya.
The breakthrough came in the 29th minute when right back Twaha Bukenya’s cross found Sam Mutambo, who headed home the only goal of the game.

In the second half, YMCA pushed hard for an equalizer, but Muteesa I Royal’s defence held firm, with goalkeeper Kayanja Joram making crucial saves to preserve the lead.
“We thank God for this, and it means a lot to me,” said Sam Mutambo, the match winner.
“I thank my few players, coaches, administration, and fans for their support.” he added.

The victory was met with jubilation from Muteesa I Royal fans, who celebrated wildly at Nakivubo, while YMCA’s hopes of winning the title were left in tatters.

In the third-place match, two times Champions Kampala University edged out St Lawrence University 1-0, with Kiweewa Raymond scoring the winning goal.

Muteesa I Royal University’s victory marks a historic moment for the university, which has never before won the University Football League title.
