Lugazi FC welcomes Coach Bogere as Sadicks replacement.
Lugazi FC has made a significant move in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League by appointing Steven Bogere as their new head coach, effective today, October 25, 2024. Bogere replaces Sadick Sempigi, who was dismissed last week, and takes over from assistant coach Oliver Mbekeka, who temporarily filled the role.
Mbekeka made headlines during her short tenure, becoming the first woman to manage a team in the UPL. Under her guidance, Lugazi achieved a historic 1-0 victory against Express FC at Hamz Stadium Nakivubo, marking the club’s first-ever win in the top tier of Ugandan football. Her leadership during this interim period has been praised, but the club is now looking forward to the new direction Bogere will bring.
In an official statement announcing his appointment, Lugazi FC expressed their confidence in Bogere’s abilities: “
We are delighted to announce Mr. Steven Bogere as the club’s new head coach. His arrival is timely as the management continues to work towards improving the performance of the team.” Bogere has signed a one-year contract and will begin his duties immediately.
Bogere is no stranger to Ugandan football, bringing a wealth of experience from managing several top clubs, including SC Villa, UPDF, Proline, and Onduparaka. His extensive background in the league positions him well to navigate the challenges ahead as Lugazi FC aims to elevate its status and performance.
The management’s decision comes at a critical juncture, with the club seeking stability and improvement following a difficult start to the season. Fans and players alike will be hoping that Bogere’s experience and tactical acumen can spark a turnaround as they strive for a successful campaign in the UPL.
