
Silverbacks thumps African Giants Nigeria to advance to the quarterfinals in Afrobasket.
Uganda National basketball team “The Silverbacks” progressed to the next stage of the quarterfinals of 2021 Afrobasket after defeating one of the African Giants Nigeria 80:68 in Rwanda Kigali.
The Silverbacks had an impressive start of the 1st quarter when they out scored their opponents Nigeria and had a 12point advantage. The quarter ended Uganda 24:12 Nigeria
In the second quarter, Uganda came back with a hot hand and before the break, The Silverbacks had a 13 point lead. The first half ended, Uganda 44: 31 Nigeria.
Third quarter, started at a highest peak when The Silverbacks forward Robinson Opong had a hot hand and he scored essential 3 good 3 pointers to keep Uganda in the lead. The quarter ended Uganda 67:49 Nigeria. The Silverbacks had 18point lead.
In the fourth quarter, the Silverbacks held on to their lead and the game ended Uganda 80:68 Nigeria.
Robinson Opong shot 6-for-10 from the three-point range to record a game high 19 points. Ishmail Wainwright, Arthur Kaluma and Deng Geu recorded in 11 points each.
Uganda will face Cape Verde in the quarterfinals game to be played on Thursday 2nd September at 7PM EAT.
