Pius Ssebulime organises Charity Soccer Match to change communities

There are footballers who play for glory. There are footballers who play for gold. And then there are those rare few who play for something far greater than themselves.

Uganda International Midfielder Pius Ssebulime belongs to that rare breed.

With a heart as big as his talent, the Rutgers University star has organised a Charity Soccer Match not in America where he now plies his trad but right back where it all began.

In his birthplace. In Masaka. On home soil.

The beautiful game is coming home.

The Charity Soccer Match is slated for Tuesday, 22nd December 2026 at the Sports Arena Kitovu, Masaka —a day that promises to be more than just football.

It promises to be a celebration of giving, of hope, and of homecoming.

Moving under the powerful theme “Every Donation Makes A Difference,” the day will bring together international players, especially those from America where Ssebulime plays college football to share the pitch with local talent and to share love with the community.

It will be football with a purpose. Football with a soul.

The day will begin with curtain-raiser games between academies from the Masaka area the next generation, the dreamers, the young boys who look at Ssebulime and see what is possible.

Then, under the Masaka sun, the main event Friends of Pius Ssebulime will lock horns with Local Star Foundation on the same hallowed playground.

Ssebulime “dreamchaser” who is currently pursuing a Degree in Sports Management at Rutgers University in the United States of America, where he also turns out for Rutgers Men’s Soccer with fellow Ugandan Abubaker Mayanja and Annapolis Blues FC says this is only the beginning.

“I am giving back to the communities in my motherland but for starters we shall begin from my birthplace Masaka. I know there are a lot of children I want to inspire and support young soccer players and families,” Ssebulime noted.

He added that the Charity Soccer Match is aimed at raising $5,000 to help in the cause to inspire, to support, and to change lives, one donation at a time.

And what a journey it has been for the boy from Masaka.

Pius Ssebulime started his career way back at the KCCA Soccer Academy, before passing through Nyendo Modern, Masaka SS, and then A’ Level at St Henry’s College Kitovu.

He then wrote history by captaining Buddu Ssaza FC to their third Masaza Cup trophy.

Ssebulime says football is not just about winning. Sometimes, it is about coming home and lifting others as you rise.

The Charity Soccer Match is sponsored by Clemira and Apro, who are some of the main partners.
