FAZ Launches Safe Stadium Initiative to Enhance Security
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has taken a significant step towards improving stadium safety with the launch of the Safe Stadium Initiative, a program designed to enhance security measures at football venues. Zambia becomes the fourth country in the COSAFA region and the 18th in Africa to implement such training.
As part of the initiative, 40 security officers from Super League clubs and national teams have undergone specialized training aimed at ensuring safety in stadiums and reducing incidents during matches.
CAF Commends FAZ’s Efforts
During the three-day training, CAF Defense & Security Officer Xolile Nokuthula Vilakati commended FAZ for its proactive approach in organizing the program. She emphasized the need for unity among clubs and security personnel, with the ultimate goal of achieving zero deaths in CAF stadiums.
FAZ President Highlights Key Developments
FAZ President Andrew Kamanga underlined the importance of security in football, reflecting on past stadium tragedies and the association’s broader development agenda. He also pointed out FAZ’s commitment to modernizing Zambian football through initiatives such as VAR training and the introduction of GPS equipment for Super League teams. Kamanga further stressed the crucial role CCTV technology plays in improving security and monitoring stadium activities.
Call for Effective Implementation
Copperbelt Division ACP Chief of Operations Brighton Mwape urged the trained officers to apply their knowledge effectively, ensuring safer football environments for fans, players, and officials.
The Safe Stadium Initiative marks a major step forward in creating secure and well-managed football venues in Zambia, aligning with CAF’s broader efforts to enhance safety across African football.
