Uganda Skateboard Society Makes History with First National Game of Skate

The Uganda Skateboard Society achieved a significant milestone by hosting the first-ever national Game of Skate at the Mukono Xtreme Skatepark. This historic event was organized by Gose Gerald, the founder of the Uganda Skateboard Society, who oversaw the construction of a central maroon wooden platform that became the focal point of the competition. The construction of the platform, which took more than two days and one night to complete, showcased the dedication and teamwork of everyone involved.

The event was made possible with financial support from Crewcial, Jabaah, and Dope Games, while local sponsor Mountain Dew provided sodas, tents, and chairs, contributing to the event’s overall success. Skaters from across Uganda, including the Climate Skaters Kitezi, gathered to participate in the groundbreaking competition, which brought together the skateboarding community for a day of excitement and celebration.

The Game of Skate was held in a one-on-one battle format. Skaters had to challenge each other with flat tricks, with the opponent required to replicate the trick to avoid elimination. This format created an intense and exhilarating atmosphere for participants and spectators alike. Although the competition was briefly delayed for an hour due to heavy rain, the enthusiasm of everyone present remained undiminished.

The event was officiated by Skitty from the Skateboarding Society of Kenya and Gabriel from Italy, who served as head referees. Their presence added an international touch to the competition. Additionally, She Skates Kenya representatives Cess and Wairimu Mburu graced the event, highlighting the growing presence of female skaters in East Africa.

The event also included a variety of side activities to keep the crowd engaged, such as group dance contests, chugging competitions, and mind games. These activities added a festive atmosphere to the competition, making it a true celebration of community and culture.

At the end of a thrilling day, Bryan Bukenya emerged as the winner, claiming first place and a cash prize of 1,000,000 UGX. Ashraf Muwesi secured second place, earning 500,000 UGX, while Jovic Ssemanda finished in third place with a prize of 250,000 UGX.
