Juma Rovins Kizito and George Jessy Mukiibi, scored in either half for forth tier club Garuga Stars in a 2-1 Stanbic Uganda Cup preminary stage victory on Friday at Cherish grounds in Garuga- Entebbe
Former Royal Giant High school Mityana forward- Kizito, won it for the Entebbe based club, when he scored the late winner from twenty yards after his well crafted free-kick beat goalkeeper Paul Wasswa in the 87th minute.
Forward Andrew Ssemanda, gave the visitors the lead in the 5th minute and before the half time mark, trickery winger Mukiibi levelled with a crack when he beat his marker, and his well struck effort beat the goal keeper to get to the break at a 1-1 scoreline.
The hosts, got three clear-cut chances to level and take the lead before half time, but speedy winger Balyawo failed to beat the goalkeeper, Central defender Bukenya effort went inches over the bar and midfielder Mugisha well struck effort was saved by the goalkeeper.
Second half action
There wasn’t a lot of action from the last 45 minutes, but atleast, it’s easy to note that Garuga Stars danger man Juma at two occasions; failed to find the target and failed to beat the goalkeeper on a one on one on the other opportunity.
The visitors also got chances; danger man Andrew Ssemanda was denied by goalkeeper Jackson Kigozi and then later, substitute Joseph Mutumba effort wenta few inches wide .
The host’s clear second half chances, fell to Juma, who was denied by the goalkeeper and also failed to find the target on another opportunity.
Striker Juma expressed his delight scoring the winner that helped his team progress to the first round of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.
” I congratulate my fellow players for the spirit show today and am very happy I have taken the responsibility to help carry my team to the next level, I thank our coaches for the trust and belief in me and this drives us to perform, we shall keep pushing to the highest level we can go and hopefully our fans will one day see the big SUPL clubs come here to face us and we appreciate their support.” He pointed
Garuga Stars manager/ head coach Tonny Arinaitwe, was happy with a bright start to the campaign.
“Am happy with the boys performance, even when we conceded they sticked to the game plan and instructions because we knew the moment will come, it’s a bright start for us, this is a young team that we have to keep improving great we had a good last season almost getting promoted to the regional league and we have to build on that. When we started the team our target is clear, to play in the SUPL one day.” He told Sports256 in an exclusive interview.
“We urge the fans to keep the spirit they have shown today and keep supporting thier team in all aspects.” He added.
Garuga Stars will face Free Stars FC at the first round stage of of the Stanbic Uganda Cup away in Mukono at a date yet to be communicated.
