KCCA Held to Goalless Draw by Resilient UPDF at Lugogo
KCCA FC dropped their first points at home this season following a frustrating 0-0 draw against UPDF FC at the Lugogo Stadium on Saturday. Despite dominating possession and creating several chances, Abdallah Mubiru’s side was unable to break down the resilient UPDF defense, which held firm throughout the contest.
KCCA, who had been in impressive form leading up to the match, controlled the game from the outset, with Derrick Nsibambi, Shafik Nana Kwikiriza, Said Mayanja, and Joel Sserujongi all making efforts to unlock the defense of the army side. However, despite their attacking prowess, they found UPDF’s backline and goalkeeper, Rodgers Anyama, a tough nut to crack.
Shafik Nana Kwikiriza, who was named man of the match for his tireless work in midfield, created several opportunities, while substitute Ashraf Mugume looked lively after coming on. Mugume had two notable efforts that forced good saves from Anyama, but on both occasions, the UPDF goalkeeper was equal to the task, maintaining his team’s clean sheet.
UPDF’s defensive organization and discipline were commendable. The army side played with a level of determination that made it clear they were determined to leave Lugogo with at least a point. Their disciplined defensive display was crucial in frustrating KCCA, who had been expected to collect all three points at home.
With the draw, KCCA now sit second in the standings with 11 points, just one point behind leaders NEC FC. They remain unbeaten at home, but this stalemate will be seen as an opportunity missed as they chase the top spot. Meanwhile, UPDF FC, who have struggled for form this season, are in 4th place with just 3 points, but this result will give them confidence as they look to build momentum.
Looking ahead, UPDF will be hoping to continue their improved performances when they host URA FC on Thursday, while KCCA travel to face Mbale Heroes two days later. The title race is still wide open, and both teams will be eager to bounce back from this result as the season progresses.
