Five Stars Bred Striker Abishai Making A Mark With South Sudan at AFCON

 

Five stars Football academy graduate Agumemboki Felix Abishai is living his dream representing his country South Sudan in the ongoing Total Energies U-20 Africa Cup of nations in Egypt.

 

The lanky forward currently playing for Five stars Football club in Uganda, earned his maiden national team call up for the the U-17 team in 2020 but didn’t make the final list that traveled to Rwanda.

 

The young star currently living in Uganda started against Uganda in the last group B game that ended 2-2 but was later replaced by Peter Aparer.

Abishai that played in all three group B games, helped his country qualify for the quarter final and will  face group C winners Gambia on Friday 17;00hrs.

 

The bright stars will be aiming at making history to qualify for the World Cup if they defeat Gambia appearing at their debut TotalEnergies U-20 AFCON.

 

Having failed at the U-17, its special for the young center forward to appear at this biggest stage of this career so far and he feels this tournament could help him achieve his targets.

 

‘ It’s really a great feeling for the fact that, this is the first time for South Sudan to appear in AFCON so for me as a player, it’s a big achievement to represent my country in Egypt. Just like it’s every players’ dream to play professional football, I see myself getting close to achieving my goals of playing overseas and am already taking positive steps.” Abishai told Sport256.

 

The South Sudanese striker joined Five stars Five (5) academy years ago in 2018 till today,and has manged 26 goals in the 23 appearances.

 

The young forward is grateful to his current team Five Stars and the club academy for his career progress.

” Playing for Five Stars has been a great honor, they welcomed me into the team (academy) that time when no one knew that I play football and have been here for all these years. The club has helped improve my game, that’s why today am representing South Sudan in the AFCON.’ He stressed.

 

” I personally want to create a channel of opportunities for other players in order for them to achieve their own goals as well. I feel I have to support Five Stars in other departments where I can be of help and be an inspiration for the youth.” He concluded.

Five Stars Football Academy and club president Shafiq Kakooza is delighted with the project’s success producing a product that compete at an international level.

 

” It’s a pleasure and an inspiration to the club and other players. As the academy we target developing football talents and promote more players to national level and professional level and Abishai is one of them.” Kakooza pointed.

 

Abishai has gone through Entebbe Navigators Soccer and Five Stars Academy for his youth development and has played for Five Stars football club, Nkumba University football club and Amarat Football club South Sudan.

 

The big prospect Abishai, inspired by his uncle Martin Matata to play the game, has so far played six games for the U-20 team, scored 2 goals and assisted at one occasion.

 

He pointed at Uganda Hippos left back Ibrahim Juma as his toughest opponent so far among those he has faced and Biko Bage as the best teammate (Amarat football club).

 

Abishai is a ‘fox’ in the box thus the nick-name of his close pals love calling him and his strength is heading and shooting at goal.

 

In a lengthy exclusive interview with Sport256, he expressed his love to play for Vipers SC and KCCA FC locally and Chelsea, AC Milan, Real Madrid abroad.
