Stanbic Uganda Cup: Surprise Package Kiyinda Boys Visit UPL Club in Round of 16

The 2022/23 Stanbic Uganda Cup surprise package Kiyinda Boys will be aiming at knocking out another StarTimes Uganda club according to round of 16 draws held on Tuesday at FUFA Complex in Mengo.

Knick-named the giant killers in this 49th edition, Kiyinda boys will this time round travel to face Bright Stars FC at Kavumba recreation grounds as their dream road to Lira for the Final continue.

The regional league (3rd tier) club based in Mityana, knocked out SUPL Club Gadafi (1-0) at round of 64 and eliminated FUFA big league club Kigezi Home boys 2-1 to storm the round of 16 stage.

Stephen Namuwenda and Steven Sebuufu scored the important goals for the regional league side to record their best ever performance in the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

Holders BUL FC defeated Sparks at round of 64 and will have to negotiate their way past cup Giants SC Villa at round of 32 to book a date with Onduparaka at the Greenlight stadium in Arua.

Another interesting encounter will be the Wakiso derby as reigning league champions Vipers SC, will make a short trip to face Wakiso Giants at Wakisha grounds.

StarTimes premier league clubs KCCA FC and Express will host Mbarara City and PBA FC respectively.

FUFA big league clubs Police and Ndejje University will face off in one of this stage’s games and Calvary will host Kitara FC

BUL are defending champions of this competition after having defeated Vipers SC 3-1 in the final last year.

FUFA believes that football is not just a game. It can transform society through various aspects and because of this, even this year it has attached a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) campaign.

This year’s theme is “Make them smile again.” according to FUFA Events Manager, Leilah Nankya

“For the fifth year, we are running this campaign. For every final of the Stanbic Uganda Cup, we look at donating clothes and other items to the less privileged people in the region where the final is played.” Nankya told fufa.co.ug.

“I call upon the general public, sponsors and the corporate world to be part of this cause. We shall have collection centres where clothing items will be received.” She concluded.
