STANBIC UGANDA CUP:VIPERS SC ADVANCE TO SEMI-FINALS AFTER SPOT KICKS

Vipers SC edged NEC FC 4-3 on penalties after a 0-0 draw in regulation time.

For starters, Vipers SC are the defending champions of last year’s edition.

The match was a tense affair, with both teams creating chances but failing to convert.

NEC’s Joseph Seremba had an early chance, shooting inches over the bar, while Vipers’ Usama Arafat had two clear attempts, including a header and a half-volley, but couldn’t find the back of the net.

Taddeo Lwanga also had a scoring chance for Vipers. but his header went over.

The visitors had a number of opportunities in the second half, including a Enock Ssebagala shot that went over and a Milton Karisa effort that was cleared off the line by goalkeeper Hannington Ssewalunyo.

In extra time, both teams continued to push, but the goalkeepers were equal to the challenges.

NEC’s Tonny Atukunda

The game headed to penalties, where Hakim Wandera, Innocent Media, and Hannington Ssewalunyo scored, while Warren Buule and Pius Obuya missed for NEC FC.

Vipers’ Enock Luyima missed then Karim Watambala, Yunus Sentamu, Hilary Mukundane, and Milton Karisa converted their penalties, securing the win.

Vipers SC are the first team to advance to this season’s semi-finals.
