Hassan Alwi Wins Gulu City Rally in Thrilling Rajiv Ruparelia Memorial
GULU CITY — Hassan Alwi emerged victorious in the Rajiv Ruparelia Memorial Rally, held over the weekend as part of the Gulu City Oktoberfest celebrations. The high-octane event doubled as the sixth and penultimate round of the 2025 Uganda National Rally Championship (NRC).
Gulu City was transformed into a motorsport arena, drawing massive crowds and a star-studded guest list. Among the notable faces in attendance were Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, Shaha Vybz, comedian Salvado, Minister Henry Okello Oryem, and General Otema Awany. Their presence brought added prestige to an already electric atmosphere as engines roared and fans filled the streets in excitement.

But beyond the adrenaline and competition, the rally served a greater purpose — celebrating unity, culture, and the unbreakable spirit of Northern Uganda.
Flagged off at Pece War Memorial Stadium, the event attracted top rally drivers from across the country and played a pivotal role in shaping the NRC championship standings.
The rally also carried deep emotional significance as it honoured the late Rajiv Ruparelia, a beloved businessman, motorsport enthusiast, and son of tycoon Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, who tragically passed away in a car crash on May 3.
As a lasting tribute, organizers and the NRC community announced plans to plant trees and drill a borehole in Gulu, symbolizing Rajiv’s enduring legacy and his passion for community development.
The day belonged to Hassan Alwi, whose skill, consistency, and speed earned him a memorable win — but the spirit of the rally extended far beyond the track, showcasing Gulu’s growing love for motorsport and its capacity to unite people through shared celebration.
