UFL: Tumusiime Header Seals UMU’s Narrow Win Over KIU
Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) continued their impressive run in the Pepsi University Football League with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Kampala International University (KIU) at Nkozi on Friday.
Emmanuel Tumusiime was the hero of the day, heading home the decisive goal in the 56th minute to hand the hosts maximum points.
KIU started brightly, dominating the early exchanges and pressing UMU deep in their own half despite the electric atmosphere created by the home fans. Both sides fashioned chances but failed to convert, leaving the game goalless at halftime.
The breakthrough finally came after the restart when Tumusiime rose highest to nod in Taban Wijo’s perfectly weighted cross, leaving the KIU goalkeeper rooted to the spot.
The result extends UMU’s unbeaten streak to 15 consecutive matches, solidifying their reputation as one of the league’s powerhouses.
The win also moves the Nkozi-based side to four points, level with Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), who recently edged Kisubi in their own fixture.
